Nestled in a valley between the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges lies Mosca, Colorado. Mosca is home to Colorado's legendary Zapata Ranch on which you will find the Inn at Zapata Ranch and one of largest bison herds in the country.
With only fourteen rooms and one suite, the Inn at Zapata Ranch promises a stay that will be an intimate affair. From the outside, the guest houses look primitive with their rough-hewn log facades. Indeed with no televisions or phones, they are primitive to a degree, but not so much so that it's bothersome. Instead, the individually decorated rooms are charming enclaves filled with antiques, hand-crafted beds, claw-footed tubs, and pedestal sinks. Additionally there is absolutely nothing primitive about the cuisine served by the restaurant where you can enjoy inventive provincial cooking.
The resort offers golf and has a sauna, pool, and gym, and nearby you can hike, fish, or ride. Also, be sure to visit the Great Sand Dunes National Monument and stand in awe of the towering, continuously shifting dunes. Of course, if you do bring your clubs, the eighteen-hole course will challenge you with its tall prairie grass rough while endearing you with the natural beauty that abounds in this Colorado oasis.
