Built during the War of 1812, this stately, three-story, yellow Federal-style home is the former residence of a sea captain. The mansion is located in Kennebunkport's Historic District and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The lavish interior is exquisitely appointed with priceless antiques in the public salons. Each of the mansion's sixteen guest rooms is named after a ship that Captain Lord built and is meticulously decorated with period antiques and oil paintings. Most of these rooms have fireplaces, and each chamber has its own unique character. For instance, you can curl up on the clawfoot sofa in front of the fireplace in the Lincoln Room or you can relax on the English four-poster queen-sized bed. More deluxe accommodations are available in the Merchant Captain's Suite which has a huge bathroom that incorporates a double whirlpool tub and an oversized shower for two. For elegance, try the Brig Merchant Room on the ground floor. This room is decorated with a fishnet canopy bed and dark mahogany period furniture.
Enjoy a full family-style breakfast in the kitchen before venturing out into Kennebunkport to explore the town's architecture or the shops of Dock Square.
