You won't find Golden Pond on any map, but the site where Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda filmed the movie, On Golden Pond, was actually Squam Lake. The number of private homes makes it next to impossible to enjoy Squam Lake unless you stay at the Manor on Golden Pond. Located on fifty acres of wooded land with meandering stone walls, split rail fences, and foliage, the Manor on Golden Pond is just forty-five minutes north of Concord.
This rambling stucco and timber house built in 1907 features eight individually decorated guest rooms with private baths. Couples looking for a maximum of amenities should ask for the Buckingham Room which features a king-sized canopy bed and marble fireplace. All the bedrooms in the main house are decorated in Early American style with braided curtains and rugs. Other rooming options include a six-room carriage house and four two-bedroom cottages on the grounds. Although the rooms in the carriage house are less ornate, they are furnished with English antiques.
Guests will find many different ways to relax at the inn. A sixty-foot screened porch provides a relaxing setting. A sitting room with large picture window provides a view of the grounds. Other amenities include a television room, a swimming pool, and tennis courts.
Squam Lake provides guests with immediate access for sunning, swimming, fishing, or boating. Hiking and walking trails provide you with an opportunity to explore the area. You may also opt for a walk down to the town beach or the Science Center of New Hampshire. Downhill and cross-country skiing are also nearby options in the winter months.
