They call New Mexico the Land of Enchantment and it's easy to see why. There's something almost mystical about the desert mountains, the spectacular sunsets, the Native American heritage, and the Southwestern culture. Here is a place where time seems to stand still, and every day the ancient earth is renewed once again.
Of course, Santa Fe is the most exciting and romantic city in New Mexico. And the Inn of the Anasazi is the place to stay here. Located right in the heart of Santa Fe, near the galleries and shops of the historic main plaza, the inn is a luxurious, yet intimate resort, converted into a Pueblo-style hotel from its original incarnation as a municipal building.
The inn is named after the Anasazi Indians, who were the earliest inhabitants of this region, so entrenched that the Navajos called them "the ancient ones." They built dwellings in cliffsides, such as Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon, and established highly developed farming communities. Their legacy is continued at the inn, which recaptures the patterned masonry techniques and colorful murals favored by the Anasazi. The common rooms have smooth-plastered walls and ceilings with rough-hewn wood vigas and latillas, and traditional support beams. The wrought-iron lighting fixtures and snake-patterned sconces provide a romantic glow downstairs. The upstairs is lit with rope-patterned floor lamps and more traditional ironwork fixtures. Kava fireplaces warm the library and boardroom. The wine cellar has painted, hand-carved wooden doors.
The inn features fifty-one guest rooms and eight deluxe rooms. All the rooms are furnished with four-poster beds, entertainment centers, and gas-burning fireplaces. The deluxe rooms have fax machine capability and stereos, for those who don't want to completely cut themselves off from civilization. Hand-crafted rugs and Anasazi-styled bedding give the rooms a distinctive Southwestern feeling. The bathrooms are decorated in handmade Mexican tile.
The famous Anasazi Restaurant combines Native American, New Mexican, and cowboy cuisine into a fascinating and tantalizing dining experience. After dinner, relax by the fireside in the living room or browse the legends of the Southwest in the cultural library.
Convenient to every attraction in Santa Fe, the inn is a perfect jumping off point for tours of the Southwest. You can visit the ancient Indian ruins and sites of the Anasazi and the Pueblo. Fishing, hiking, rafting, and skiing tours can be arranged by the inn's staff.
The Inn of the Anasazi is consistently ranked the best lodging in Santa Fe by a wide range of travel experts.
