Perched high upon a private, 5,000-foot mountain in the Smokies, the Swag arguably has the best views of any entry in this book. From this charming rustic retreat, you and your lover can gaze fifty miles into the distance and marvel at the unspoiled beauty of the Smoky Mountains.
Rustic romance best describes the Swag. The main building is dominated by its massive stone fireplace. Rustic timber planking, hand-hewn log walls, exposed beams, and Appalachian art all add to the ambiance of the cathedral lounge. This theme continues to the guest rooms. All rooms feature hand-made quilts, coffee grinders and makers, and your own refrigerator (an attractive amenity in this dry, BYOB county). For the ultimate in romance, pay a little extra and get one of the rooms with a balcony, fireplace, Jacuzzi, and steam shower.
Located on the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Swag is a nature lover's paradise. It even has its own private entrance to the 500,000-acre park and its network of scenic trails. Inside the park, you and your lover can do everything from visiting an old frontier village to chasing salamanders in the mountain streams. Back at the Swag, you can relax in the spring-fed swimming hole or a nearby hammock. After a delicious dinner (rates include three meals a day), proceed to the porch, pull a couple of rocking chairs together, and enjoy the serenity of a Smoky Mountain night.
