Anyone who's ever seen Norman Rockwell's "Saying Grace" or "The Four Freedoms" is bound to have wondered if such an America ever existed. Not only did such a place exist, you can now stay there in Rockwell's old house.
On the shores of the Battenkill River, just over a covered bridge, lies the Inn on Covered Bridge Green. Just a stone's throw away lies the picture-perfect town of Arlington. It's a place where the white steepled church is still used for harvest dinners, and life moves a lot slower than in the cities of the Northeast. From his old farm-house, now 206 years old, Rockwell observed this charming little hamlet and created images that have warmed the souls of many Americans. The B&B still contains many of Rockwell's possessions, and its intimate rooms are filled with many period antiques. Out back is Rockwell's studio, now a two-bedroom, two-bath cottage perfect for a romantic weekend.
Nearby you can enjoy skiing at Bromley or Stratton. During the spring, summer, and fall, the Battenkill River offers some of the best trout fishing in the nation.
