The historic town of Williamsburg is a breathtaking trip back to Colonial America. The attention to detail is so exquisite that if it weren't for the tourists taking pictures, you might think you were in the 1 700s, when Williamsburg was the capital of Virginia and a hotbed of the revolution. The town features real stores with the goods for sale back then and shows off artisans practicing crafts (like wigmaking) that have long gone out of fashion.
If you have a passion for history, then Williamsburg is the place for you. And the Williamsburg Inn is where you'll want to stay at this historic burg.
Of course the inn reflects the historical accuracy of Williamsburg itself. The lobby is decorated in Regency style, with fireplaces at each end. From the lobby, you can look out onto the terrace and golf course. The musical instruments played in the dining room can be anything from a harp to piano to string trio. Candles and fresh flowers are always in the dining room, where the entrees can include noisettes of beef tenderloin with fresh oysters or venison in a pepper cream sauce. Two cocktail lounges give you an option for drinks before and after dinner.
But there are also plenty of modern comforts and conveniences, like an indoor and an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and a massage salon. The Golden Horseshoe Golf Course is right outside. And lawn bowling is also available. A few steps from the lobby of the inn, and you're in Colonial Williamsburg.
The lodgings at the inn include a total of 235 guest quarters. Many of those rooms are in the inn itself. But the real experience is to stay in one of the Colonial houses. The houses are situated right in the heart of the restored area. Decorated with period furnishings, they still have all the modern conveniences. Many celebrities and world leaders have stayed at the Colonial houses, including the heads of several countries during the 1983 Summit of Industrialized Nations. But you don't have to run a country in order to enjoy the quaint charm of these historically accurate houses.
