Consistently ranked as one of the top resorts, not just in the Midwest but throughout the country, The American Club offers luxury and elegance in a friendly atmosphere. Looking at the gorgeous landscaping and gardens, and the stately tudor architecture you'd never think that the Club was originally built for the immigrant workers employed by Kohler in 1918. Carefully refurbished in 1981, the Club was reopened as a luxury hotel.
The resort area features nine restaurants, four of which are in the Club. The Immigrant Restaurant is the Club's premier dining room. Serving dinner only, the Immigrant features international cuisine and fine wines, and has been named one of the top restaurants in North America. The adjacent Winery is a comfortable place to enjoy cocktails and fine wines by the glass. Live entertainment is offered on the weekends. The Club's original dining room has been transformed into the elegant Wisconsin Room Restaurant, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served amid oak paneling, antique chandeliers, leaded glass panels above French Doors, and original tapestries. The Greenhouse is a charming antique solarium brought over from England and reconstructed here. Now it's a delightful cafe in the fountain courtyard, a great place for afternoon and evening refreshments, including a tantalizing variety of desserts, pastries, coffees, and specialty drinks. Health conscious diners can partake at the Jumping Bean, which overlooks the indoor pool. In the summer a floating dining terrace-the Marine Bean-is set on scenic Wood Lake. The Horse and Plow is a casual pub with turn-of-the-century ambiance.
Blackwolf Run, the resort's two eighteen-hole golf courses, offers challenges for duffers of all skill levels. Golf Digest ranked the River Course among the top 100 courses in the country, and the fourth best public course. The Blackwolf Run Clubhouse looks out onto panoramic views of the river valley, providing a comfortable atmosphere for year-round dining or relaxing after a game of golf. River Wildlife, the resort's 500-acre wilderness preserve, offers a rustic retreat plus trails and a meandering river for outdoor activities. Sports Core is a private health and racquet club offering a full-service spa, tennis, swimming, and other recreational activities. Nearby are the shops at Woodlake Kohler, offering a variety of specialties in a scenic lakeside setting.
